Cahaba Lily (Hymenocallis coronaria)

Cahaba River (Central Alabama)

From early May to late June, the shoals of the Cahaba River are transformed into a showcase of floral delight as the rare Cahaba Lily blooms. Found only in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina; the Cahaba Lily requires swift current and direct sunlight to flourish.

Today's article in the Albany Herald states that the Cahaba Lily can only be found in eight counties in Georgia, four counties along the Columbus border with Alabama and at August. I live in Albany along the Flint river and know for a fact that the lily can be found in Dooly, Lee and Dougherty counties. I have dug up several bulbs over the years, not knowing their rarity. I have several pictures of their blooms from my yard after transplanting.
