the solutions: the first two

The steel gear needed to go on a diet.

A way to increase the hold on the steel gear was needed.

The steel gear was drilled with 18 holes to reduce its weight. 3.5oz of steel was removed. Now, the gear does not 'feel' like a piece of steel. For its size, the weight feels 'light'.

I cut out some gasket paper "stiction" gaskets; from 1/16th inch and 1/32nd inch gasket paper. These stiction gaskets would increase the hold and clamp of the ring retainer and the shoulder of the EDIS adapter.

Together, the reduced weight of the gear and the stickiness and hold of the paper gaskets would go a long way towards holding the steel gear in place.
