Scan2965.jpgThe rock garden in the far back yard was built on the dirt that I dug out to create our pond. The little volunteer Eastern Redcedar at the top left of the bed grew into a mature tree that was damaged when a nearby honey locust was blown over onto it. |
Scan2966.jpgThe goldfish pond and waterfall with the hackberry tree in the background--the lone tree on the property when we moved in. Before any planting along the E chain-link fence. |
Scan2967.jpgCactus bed in the middle of the back yard, on the E side, with pyracantha (before it became a monster, then was killed by 2010 hailstorm) and coral honeysuckle on E fence. |
Scan2968.jpgThis may be what was later expanded into the round bed in back. |
Scan2973.jpgSteve, adding supports to the trellis around our house power pole to hang bird feeders, with one of the Russian olive trees we got from Bill and Jackie, after they had gotten more than they could use from the OK forestry department. |
Scan2975.jpgNeighbor George Garrison gave us the 'For the Birds' feeder we placed in this bed in back. In the back L is a pole we'd used for a basketball goal in front for the boys and behind it is another trellis we called Far Point Station, in reference to Star Trek Deep Space 9. We planted Japanese honeysuckle there before learning it was invasive. There were a couple of peach trees on the R in back. |
Scan2977.jpgLooking NW from the near SE part of the back yard. In the foreground is the bulb bed with one of the many rocks George Garrison gave us when he got tired of mowing around them; he called this one 'Old Okmulgee,' maybe because he found it there. Between the bulb bed and the house, you can see the first of our feeder 'trees' that we built to hang more bird feeders. There was a thermometer on the back side of the coke bottle-shaped piece of wood on a stick in the bulb bed that Mom & Dad got us at some flea market. In the bed behind is a cherry and another tree (neither of which survived) and a big sandstone rock that George gave us. |

Scan2985.jpgThe SW corner of the front yard, with a volunteer or transplanted cottonwood tree, ivy climbing the fence and autumn clematis on the far L |
Scan2986.jpgNewly-planted flower bed along the W fence in back. When we bought the lots behind us at auction, we sold 3 lots on the W to our neighbors Fernando and Ramona. Fernando did yard work and brought home a lot of plants to put in their yard that his customers had asked to be removed from theirs, but this photo preceded a lot of his plantings. |

Scan2988.jpgYarrow, daylilies and irises blooming in the bulb bed |
Scan4742.jpgLooking NW toward the big dome, through the purple plum tree we had for a while that was in what is now our bulb bed in the back yard. This was before the window room and storage was built onto our bedroom in back. |
Scan4743.jpgTulips that Jeremy and Sharon may have sent us from the Netherlands when they were living there. Looking N across the front yard to the small dome before many trees were planted in the front yard. |
Scan4744.jpgA volunteer, invasive Tree of Heaven (that we eventually identified and cut out), shrub roses we no longer have, and the big Burford holly at the front of the downstairs bathroom that was beaten down by the 2010 hailstorm. |
Scan4745.jpgLooking SE from the NE corner of the front yard. Sycamore tree in the R foreground, hickory tree (which we thought was a non-bearing pecan for decades) to the E of the driveway. Before the 'pecan tree' bed or the 'boat' bed were created in the front yard. Little red Ford Ranger, Mary's 1997 Toyota Camry and my 1992 Honda Civic. |
Scan4746.jpgLooking SSE from the driveway to the house on an icy day. |
Scan4750.jpgLooking SW from the NW corner of the back yard. On the L is the elm tree we got from Mary's Dad's house. In the middle is the pond, waterfall and hackberry tree. R of center is the big trellis and a stump we picked up at the side of the road and placed in the yard. |
Scan4751.jpgLooking SSW from the NW part of the back yard. The round bed is in view and maybe one of the honey locust trees in the far back that we got from Bill and Jackie. |
Scan4752.jpgLooking SE at the big trellis, with the round bed on the R with the oak tree that has since died and been replaced. |
Scan4753.jpgBlue clematis on the trellis that we put around our first power pole. We also put bird feeders around the top of it. |
