Front End Assembly

Shot of the assembled front end components - 81" nose, Dash-2 cab, and Dash-2 sub-base. The individual components (assembled cab, nose, and sub-bases) are only dry-fit together for the photo. I won't get into the details of assembly...just basic Cannon assembly work. The front door is propped open with a small piece of Tamiya tape; I haven't decided on whether or not to permanently leave it open. Leaving it open would show off the interior details better (taken from an undec Athearn SD45-2 parts baggie), but the door itself would be vulnerable to breakage.

The added details include the Cannon door padlock (the hasp is visible at the top edge of the open door), Cannon wiper motors, inside door handles (bent from .008" P-B wire), a Detail Associates late Pyle headlight with glare shields, and a small patch on the cab side made from .005" styrene (sanded slightly thinner), to represent the plated-over cab vent location. This model is my first using the 18" drop grab irons from BLMA ( http://www.blmamodels.com/ ). I'm VERY impressed with them; very fine, and all the bends and drops are consistent. I think I've found a new standard for locomotive grabs.:)

I still need to add a Details West #326 air horn (still on backorder), small ATSF-style rear view mirrors (from the DW set), the drop grab on the front of the battery box (I'll probably leave it off for now, since it can interfere with walkway masking), radio antenna, and the sandfiller lid (again, probably to remain off for the time being, to prevent breakage).
