Rattle Snake : Western Diamondback

Arizona

I wish we had stayed and worked this snake a bit more. Use a shim. Get lower. Get a strike. 20/20 hindsight...

This was shot between Prescott and Seligman while riding along with a friend shooting a Back Road Adventure for AZ Highways.

BTW, I live in Chandler as well.

Really nice shot, Steven. You sure you didn't pick him up and set him among the blades of grass.
All the years I have been traveling into the desert, I've never seen one. Just a Gila Monster, once. Voted.

Great shot to catch the pose and the tongue. A strike would probably have blurred, besides these critters have enough stress just to survive. Voted.

Using a 300mm f4.0L IS allowed me to keep a safe distance. A snake has a reach of the length of its body. This guy was about 3 feet long so we kept a good 4-5 feet.

Noble job! I wouldn’t dream of trying to get this close. Vote
