Stretching out its hand of destruction and creation, lightning is one of the most primal of all experiences on this planet and one of the many things that makes man unique. We actually are drawn to lightning while still respecting its deadly nature. Most other animals simply shun lightning and seek cover.
This monsoon season has been a good one for lightning storms in the Phoenix Valley if you don't mind driving a bit. This shot was taken about 35 minutes from home at the literal edge of town. Behind me was a thriving housing development and in front of me the desert. No farms. No citrus Groves. Just open desert.
