Monday we toured the area with Sandra. She was an excellent guide and introduced us to a variety of birds/hummingbirds, plants and butterflies.
The "Mariposas de Mindo is one of the biggest butterfly exhibitions in central Ecuador.
At the beginning of the tour we watched butterflies in various stages and saw a couple unravel into beautiful butterflies that were suspended while waiting for their wings to dry. We walked outdoors to an area that was covered by a net to keep the butterflies inside. Butterflies would be released periodically. The types depended on the numbers of various species . The gardens were lush & lovely and the sound of the waterfalls encouraged one to sit back and enjoy watching the many varieties of butterflies. It was not unusual to have butterflies land on you as sat on the bench or wandered around.
