THE EYES ARE THE MIRROR TO THE SOUL

I spent about 4 hours walking in the woods today. It always clears my head.
It used to be a haven for Stevie too, but It seems too much for her these days.
Once a feisty girl of incomparable speed, cunning and energy, she watches from the sideline now as
the puppy runs and jumps and plays with reckless abandon.
I wonder if it upsets her as much as it breaks my heart.
As I am writing this Stevie is trying to to stand up so she can change positions
Her legs are buckling beneath her.
I pushed her too hard today.
I knew it at the time, and I had thought to leave her home,
but I also know that she wouldn't want to be left behind.

It's tough growing old. Poor lass.

Beautiful shot! My heart aches for you. Here is quotation from CS Lewis that I found helpful, "Why love if losing hurts so much? I have no answers any more. Only the life I have lived. Twice in that life I've been given the choice: as a boy and as a man. The boy chose safety, the man chooses suffering. The pain now is part of the happiness then. That's the deal.":

oh man...this is so sweet yet I am so sad when I read your comment.

How old is she, I'm curious, I worry too about my Morty...she limps a little and needs a step to get in the bed and to her window seat.

But I bet she loved that walk as much as the puppy, no matter how stiff or sore she is now!

I have similar concerns with my Old Girl . . .she hates to stay at home, but now when I go for my evening walks, I almost try to sneak out of the house so she won't notice (yeah, right) or I walk right after work so I don't have to leave once I get home. She doesn't stand well any more, and the slightest bit of 'slippery' sends her flying, legs splayed. I have moved her food dish to an area where there is carpet so that she can stand more steadily as she eats . . . and the dish is higher off the ground now . . . it's only a matter of time. I should take more pictures of her now . . . .

Beautiful portrait and a beautiful sentiment....

I remember that very well with Ebony - I knew when I'd overdone it with her. I soon realised though, that for her, she was happy just to go OUT and maybe meet a few dogs and have a good sniff about. But it's very upsetting for us to see them slow down.

Touching story, Liza. It must be hard to watch...she speaks with her expression.

So much love. From both the photographer and her subject.

Give Stevie a big hug (and lick) from me. My heart goes out to you both. And this is a wonderful shot.

My heart is breaking as well. All my love.

That's the drawback of loving a pet. They grow old way too early and leave us way too soon. It doesn't seem fair.
This is a wonderful photo. She has such a sweet face.
