this photo has such a sense of quiet alienation to my eye
almost as if this huge place is filled with people but it is wordless and silent
I am not sure why it feels that way to me

It's the perspective. The people are dwarfed by this immense structure, which your full-frame lets you get all of :-)

perhaps its the high ceiling that makes it seem so... hollow.
