Wanda Tour de Cure Kick Off Rally 02_22_07.jpg

Tonight was the local American Diabetes Association's kick off rally for this years Tour de Cure. Wanda was asked to give a motivational speech on grass roots fund raising. She did a great job.

Yeah I know it isn't a much of a photo. The subject matter of course is great. Taking this type of photo is tough for me. I seem to always snap the shutter when people have a funny expression on their faces while talking. Worse, she was standing on a landing well above the crowd. Toss in little to no light. Yeah I struggled.

Oh one other thing that was almost weird to me. They had a Power Point slide show going the whole time up on the wall with some of the photos I took at last years ride. Seeing my images blown up huge was just different.

David,

I had to laugh as I read your comment because Bill had been on My case about not pausing for the camera. I wasn't thinking about posing for a pretty picture at the time. . . just wanted to say what I wanted to say and be done with it. A "seasoned speaker" I'm not, that's for sure!

Hi Bill,

This actually has more to do with the experience of the speaker than the photographer.
You will find that most seasoned speakers know the benefit of a good photo-op, and will occasionally pause at appropriate moments in their speach, and smile at the photogs. You get a good shot and they get a flattering action-portrait that doesn't look like the cover of the National Inquirer..
However, it is almost impossible to get a good shot of most speakers. Their faces are always contorted and camera is looking up their nose. They should build stages with raised platforms on the sidelines for photographers. I have, at times, tried to gain access to stage projection booths, and use a fast telephoto to get good shots of a speaker.

Love your work, and admire your taste in guns and beauty,
David

Bill, don't be so hard on yourself. We all know how much effort you put into creating a perfect image, controlling the lighting, background pose, creativity etc., but every once in a while theres nothing wrong with a snapshot. Thats what alot of us here on Pbase do.
As for goofy look or unflattering, I couldn't disagree more. What I see is a woman showing a whole lot of excitement about a cause that she is passionate about. I sure wish I could have heard her speech.
Good luck reaching your goal, no doubt you will exceed last year.

Thank you "very married"... You are too kind. I believe this picture to be one that is NOT flattering at all! Your kind comment was much appreciated.

You have just confirmed my belief that it's impossible to take a bad picture of Wanda.

Bill, your wife is an amzaing woman! It is so great to see her go out and be a positive influence in her community and for such a great cause. It makes one realize that her external beauty only comes in second to the beauty of who she is inside. Kudos to you both. Stay healthy, ride hard, and meet you goals. From a friend and a fan!
