A BIT OF THE HISTORY...

As a young man I worked for Richie Ginther Racing in Culver City California. Ginther Racing fielded several Porsche race cars for John Von Neuman and the Porsche Factory. The cars included Siffert's 917-10 Can Am car, Elliott-Forbes-Robinson's Super Vee, Alan Johnson's 914-6, 914-6 GT and of course "Sloopy Jr", the factory 1971 911-ST we sent to Leman's France for the 24 hour endurance race.

Richie was the consummate race car builder and I was an apprentice race car mechanic enjoying my exciting job. When I picked up "Sloop" at the airport (straight from the factory in Germany) I was in awe with the wide low red 911 race car. Of all the race cars we fielded, "Sloop" was my favorite because it could legally run on the street and it was built for endurance. Richie knew the perils of endurance racing and had us integrate four completely separate ignition systems, two separate fuel delivery systems, two separate radio systems and so on. The drivers could isolate problems while driving by toggling between systems. Sometimes, working on the car late at night I used to sit in the cockpit and dream of driving the car. It was the Porsche 911 taken to the extreme and made just for racing. I decided that when I was older and could afford it, I would build a race car in Richie's honor, much like "Sloop".

It's been 32 years now and over the course of the last 20 years I've evolved my Porsche 911 into a car like "Sloop". "Sloop-Two" (my car) has the advantage of a larger Porsche 3.5 Liter RSR engine, coil-over spring suspension, larger 930 brakes and many other parts that were not available to Richie back in 1971. Having the advantage of time, "Sloop-Two" is much faster that the origional "Sloop" Richie built in 1971. Despite the differences, I built this car the way Richie would have built his car if the newer race parts were available. Today, when I drive the car, I often think of Richie Ginther, my beloved boss and employer. I know if Richie were around today, he would love to drive "Sloop-Two" on the track or on the road. "Sloop-Two" was made for you Richie, a truly great Porsche race driver and builder for all times!

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

An exceptionally light weight and powerful early 911 made principally for hill-climb events. With all rally equipment and street legal equipment combined, the weight of the car is about 1815(LBS. dry). With passenger seat and belts removed the car remains street legal and weighs about 1780 (LBS. dry). In full race trim the car’s weight can be reduced to 1750 (LBS dry) by using a smaller battery and by deleting Rally and street equipment not required for racing.

The new 3.5 liter twin-plug slide-injected engine produces well over 300HP and has considerably more torque than a factory 3.0 liter RSR engine. The engines redline is about 8000RPM due to light weight engine internals. The engine has air filtration allowing it to run on the road as opposed to just track. The engine has presently only about 600 street “break-in” miles logged since its recent complete engine refresh at ANDIAL https://pbase.com/slidevalve911rsr/image/162438526. The engine passed a single day shakedown performance test at El Toro, CA. autocross event about two years ago.

In general, the entire car is fresh, race ready and/or street legal for operation the USA. The car is comprised largely of Porsche factory race car parts from many different models of Porsche racing cars. Racing parts are utilized in the Zimmerman-Lightweight from Porsche models 911R, 906, RSR, 962, 917, 356, 908, 9
