Well yes! You find them all over, not just in China...

Stunning contrast between old classical and extremely new generation. V Roberto

I'm not sure where this is, but I do think it perfectly shows the general state of the non-touristic side of Brussels: worn down buildings where mostly jobless youth hang around, looking for a quick steal or even robbery. Excellent symbol here

So well seen!... Exile: "La Marie Galante" was a ship and it is an island. The man is waiting, dreaming to somewhere else than Brussels, even if the door is closed, and he knows it, looking to another direction, but his feet are still in the "elsewhere" direction... that's hope. A brilliant image.

And "La Marie Galante" was a ship, a vessel.
Is he thinking of his homeland?

Brilliant metaphor --- after all, exile is a state of mind.

Marisa makes a good point here -- meaning in photography can be expressed in various ways. We can read the image as a series of symbols, and piece together our own story from it. Or, as she says so well, we can also appreciate it for its aesthetic meaning, finding emotional pleasure or intellectual stimulation in its expressive relationships and arrangements.

Very effective and evocative scene, we can choose to find many different meanings here, maybe the best alternative is to not look for any, but simply to enjoy to the visual beauty of the elements, which match so well with each other in their apparent contrast.

mmm this one reminds me of one proverb: ...those who are outside want to get in ,and those who are inside want to get out... he seems powerless to stand by the door.
by the way, iso1600 again! and no grain again. amazing.

Incroyable... Fantastic content and composition. This abandoned door "contradicts" the name of the closed, abandoned restaurant "La mairie galante". So does this lonely guy. But the lonely guy and the door "fit" together.
This is a very meaningful and emotional image.
