The unbroken chain. Each link precisely bound to the next.Designed to perform flawlessly for a lifetime as impeccable clockwork. You can witness the monotonous click, click of their mouths and hands working tirelessly in unison. What a marvelous machine we are!

This is a wonderful image, Kal. I love the compression from using the telephoto lens (it has a wonderful way of organizing things). I also love the balance in the photo's composition. I must agree with Phil's comment. This photo shows a certain mentality of the culture to "just get it done." Very well done! -- Rodney

Very interesting shot. I could never imagine a scene like this is Los Angeles - total strangers sitting so close, just going about thier business. Love it.

This is a very interesting image Kal - You rarely see the Thais eating in this manner. Meal times for thai poeple is as much about being together and socialising as it is about the food. Thais are often criticised their 'just enjoy' attitude to life and this image maybe shows why china at present is going through strangth to strength with a work force which is so focused.

another fine composition. Phil's note is intesresting,..
The line up, the guy standing alone, all contributes to make a very good image.

This image might well be considered routine by a Chinese viewer. But to an outsider, it offers a number of cultural insights. To balance a bowl of soup in one hand, and eat noodles with chopsticks in the other, takes skills that are intuitive and ingrained. You use a telephoto lens to compress the image into a flattened plane of rhythmically repeating those hands and bowls. Six people eating en masse as one, s also incongruous, as is the one diner who lifts the bowl to his lips. In China, such manners are perfectly acceptable. It's OK to slurp soup in this culture, but in other places, it's not . The image also represents expedience and haste -- there is no time or space to sit around a table and have lunch. Lunch is consumed on a bench, quickly and efficiently. There is a sense of time pressure, regimentation, and incongruous synchrony here that give us a fascinating insight into this culture.
