Very interesting shot!! The repetition works so well here, but that detail of the wet floor is really worth millions here! Well done!

looks like I am late to the party and whatever I say won't be anything new.
A winner in my eyes, for me the most important fact is the feeling of being connected, I notice the foot of each and everyone is connected with a back of the person infront, it's like a well organized machine working very well in a harmony.
I feel that your framing and position are spot on, wouldn't change a thing.
You can move it to your "successfull images" gallery lol.

Adding to Pil's comment, I think that mainly the fact that there's empty space adds to the meaning of the image, not so much the fact that that "empty space" is wet, although it definitely adds to the graphic character of it. In any case, it's taken from a perfect angle. You can find thousands of images of people practicing some kind of fighting sport together, but this one will definitely jump out of the mass. Well done, as usual.

The subtle yet critical effect of the wet pavement greatly enhances meaning here, Kal. As Ray notes, this image seems to be about "following the leader" as opposed to individual decision making. The mass movement disintegrates, however, as we move down to the wet pavement. I see these people as doing their best to be good followers, however at their roots, they are individuals, even if they may not yet recognize that fact. To some, this image might be a metaphor for changing China itself. While many of its millions may still chose to play follow the leader, blind obedience to authority no longer can be taken for granted.

Thanks all. Ray..your comment on strength in numbers and the precarious balance reminded me of this imagehttp://www.pbase.com/shangheye/image/46642788 ...very observant of you. This image was originally goind to be called "Movement By Numbers". I have changed it back...K ;-)

Does the Individual exist in China? The question is posed thus by this picture, faceless people, having the same attire, the same gesture, the same reflection, very much like mass produced goods. There is strength in numbers, I suppose, even though it is a precarious balance (perfectly symbolized here by their raised legs, Rockettes style). But you captured this spirit very well and I like the diagonal lines, the balance (!) between the light and dark sides. Bravo!!!

Kal, this is just excellent. The moment you've captured is just splendid and the way they copy their movements is out of this world. You always seem to find these interesting moments in our fair city. Great work!

Outstanding photo. I too agree with Jeff about the tilt and focus on legs and reflection. Personal preference, but still a great image!

Excellent. What a great area to live in and photograph. B&W treatment here is perfect. Another option for this scene would have been to tilt the camera down just a bit and focus more on the pattern of legs and reflections from the ground (it looks like it rained?). Sill, very compelling image. Great.
