The secret alcohol warehouse! Not yet the horror scene, but quite close if you don't run away fast!

Hi David, OK..so EI-1600 on Delta 400 in DDx is my favourite speed for street photography nowadays. It provides a strong grain structure..."grit" to the image. I intend to push tri-x to 800 in Rodinal in the next couple of weeks whic will be even grittier. The pushing also increases contrast which adds to the drama of most images, and for low contrast days it helps. The high EI also means that during the day the f number can be high if I need minimum focusing and I can be sure of the sharpness of the image....i.e. f8 or f16 without concern for shutter speed or taking too long and being noticed. BUT on a very high contrast sunny day it can be a nightmare, because the hilights can blow out. As you point out, you need to push the whole film, and on the occaision that it's a very sunny day, you need to select a balance in developing time that allows you to recover all the shots, or choose to push to a lower speed e.g. 800. Or if you are like many pros..have one camera loaded for low contrast light and another for high contrast situations. I do that now with my Bronica backs....then I look for horror scenes ;-))) K

Fantastic Kal!I've never seen bottles of tomato ketchup looks so ominous!
Now tell me, when you push a film, you have to push the whole film right then develop it accordingly? So when you go about deciding to push a film do you think: Right I'm going to go out and shoot some low light horror scenes... or what?
I'd definately like to start doing a bit of puching at some point.

Even with the most penetrable light
Of struggling introspection
There are still secrets
Trapped forever silent within us.

I'm wondering what's in those bottles...potent spirits no doubt - one of my favourite elements of visiting somewhere new is to see what people are eating and drinking in their local places.
