School Of The Americas
Worn from:
3 December 1982 - Current.
The colors, galleon, Maltese cross, and wave line are
taken from the design elements of the shoulder-sleeve
insignia authorized for the former United States Army
Forces Southern Command. The galleon is symbolic of the
Caribbean area. This type of ship is usually associated
with the Caribbean since it was the dominant ship used
during the Spanish regime.
The white background represents exploration of the New World.
The Maltese cross was the insignia of Columbus, the first explorer
to land in the Caribbean area. The school is located at Fort Benning, Georgia.
