Frenier on Lake Pontchartrain

Frenier, Louisiana

Once a large settlement of German immigrants, this area was wiped away by a hurricane about 100 years ago. The Germans farmed and furnished vegetables to the City of New Orleans. One of their most prosperous crops was cabbage which they turned into sauerkraut.
The area is making a comeback though not with farmers.
