The original church which was built in the 1800's was destroyed by Hurricane Betsy in 1965. However, the rectory on the left was untouched.
My parents were married in the original church in 1913 at 6 a.m. One of our sons was baptized in the original church. My mother's funeral Mass was held in this church in 1985.
There are no bells that ring as joyful when rung at weddings, or as sorrowful when rung at funerals as are the bells of St. Peter's.
