New Orleans Fairgrounds and Race Track

After having the roof taken off the clubhouse and the track soaking in water for three weeks following Hurricane Katrina, horse racing returned to New Orleans on Thanksgiving Day 2006 to a packed house. Today was even more crowded.
As I waited to take this photo the bugler sounded the call for the next race and it was thrilling to hear that sound after a long 20 months of an empty race track. The last race held prior to yesterday was in April 2005.
It is one of those bright, glaring-light days not good for photography.

So glad the race track recovered from the storm.
I love those horses , very beautiful to see and watch them perform.
My daughter races horses at Pilmico and I get to go to back side of the track for photography.
Beautiful racing facility you have where you live.

That sure looks good, better than it did before the storm maybe. Funny how we take things for granted. Like the track. It is always been there during my lifetime and over the years I guess I've been there maybe a total of 10-15 times with friends.
Life is about having options and the track was one of them in New Orleans. Nice that it's back.

The Sport of Kings returns. Bet the gray, easier to pick out on the back stretch. Very nice shot.

I think I might take up following the races instead of cricket, the way things are going. Very nice shot of the racecourse, the stands look impressive.

Love that shot Coleen,

Spent many fun afternoons at the Fairgrounds in the past whenever I was in N.O. It's great to see it back and running elegant as ever.

They had an article in the Houston paper this morning covering the opening yesterday and what a great turnout it was, and then to see your fine shot really tops the good news off.

Always check your gallery as I have many fond memories of your city and your pics do it such justice.
