Parlange in Pointe Coupee Parish

Parlange Plantation in New Roads, Louisiana

Wrap-around galleries upstairs and downstairs are a beautiful feature of this house which was built in 1754. The upstairs gallery was used to catch the summer breeze coming off the river before the days of air conditioning.
The plantation is still a working one, growing sugar cane and raising cattle.

My g-g-g-grandfather was a brickmason and made the pie-shaped bricks for the columns at the Forest Plantation in Natchez. Parlange has the same type columns and I would like to know the brickmason who constructed the plantation. My relative had to apprenctice with a master mason before he would be hired by Sir Dunbar of Natchez. Would appreciate any info. Email is barbara_baker@att.net. Thanks.

in 1994 I think it was, my husband was working on a rig on the Parlange Plantation, we were lucky enough to get a tour with the help of Miss Lucy, she even made us tea, and we went in one of the two pigeonniers, basement, and very room it was the most beautiful house I'd ever been in. I lost my husband in 2006 and this is one of my favorite memories of a place we went, thank you Miss Lucy, and God bless

Lovely, I like the moss, and I bet it's as old as the house.

What a lovely house. I'd love to live there. If only someone else would heat it, cool it, clean it, maintain it and pay the taxes!

Built in the late 1700's!
I think it is safe to say that most houses built today won't last that long.

Beautiful mansion and love the Spanish moss framing it. I'm loving this series. I sure hope someone has done something to prevent damage this hurricane season.
