The house on the left's owner died of a massive stroke shortly after Katrina and his wife, who has Alzheimer's was placed in a Nursing Home. His car sits just as he left it. I had placed them in our local hospital for safety before Katrina and they were able to stay there 10 days. Their house was flooded, too, and he knew he could not bring his wife back to the house. How very sad. The neighbors on the right have not returned to their house and I am not sure if they ever will.
Today I met a dear friend while shopping. She has nine people living in her house that was formerly just her and her husband. She has her mother, her brother, her daughter and husband and their twins, plus assorted fish and dogs and gerbils who are waiting for their houses to be restored. The "Katrina Syndrome" will go on for a long time. Katrina Syndrome is similar to what is known in war as "shell shock", I believe. You function day to day but you can't remember what you did yesterday and can't think what you will do tomorrow.
