Dr. White

State-Street-with-Water-Receding Sometime Between August 30 and September 21

This photo was taken by Dr. White who lives across the street from Ursuline Academy. He was gracious enough to let me use it for this gallery. Just looking at this photo brings back the aroma of the rotting vegetation and polluted water that I found when I got to Ursuline. Water was still in the Mausoleum when I first went to photograph.
I could not get to Ursuline until the flood waters in the street were gone. All the rest of the photos in this gallery were taken then.

OUR HOUSE IS JUST OVER THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPHER ON THE CORNER OF S. ROBERTSON AND STATE. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN BACK HOME FOR THREE WEEKS, AND DID NOT FLOOD, ONLY UNDER THE HOUSE. THE YARD IS NOW PLANTED WITH LUSH GREEN WINTER GRASS AND EVERYTHING IS ALMOST BACK TO NOWMAL. TRASH AND GARBAGE HAS BEEN REMOVED, AND THINGS ARE IMPROVING

He captured this very well. When we drove in it pretty much looked like this still. It is sad to see this, but it surely is good to realize that nature has its own rules.

I'm sure that sadly this does bring it all back. I noticed the telphone pole is green...but the mighty oaks are stately as usual, and I see a bit of green in the aspidistra even in this terrible environment. I hope that is a consolation. Nature will recover.

Your pictorial account of Katrina will be invaluable as time goes on. Great job

The water has that grey mud look about it. No wonder the plants were struggling. A terrible scene.
