Located on Esplanade Avenue and named in honor of Mother Cabrini who was a nun here, this school suffered water damage after Hurricane Katrina. However, with a dedicated staff who worked tirelessly the past 8 weeks, Cabrini will reopen on November 8 not only for its own girl students but for the boys of Holy Cross School as well. At present they share a school in Baton Rouge from 4 to 9 p.m. Beginning November 8 the girls will attend until 2 and the boys will begin at 3 p.m.
I believe they have enjoyed their co-ed school in Baton Rouge but I do not think they will miss their 120 miles roundtrip commute everyday.
Holy Cross hopes to have its campus ready with mobile classrooms by January 2, 2006.
This will be the second and third Catholic high school to re-open in New Orleans. There are no public schools open.
