Monks' Refectory (Dining Room)

Nothing I could do about the bright Louisiana light on this day so I took the photo while I had the opportunity.
The paintings on the ceiling are of the birds of the air, the beasts of the earth and the fish of the sea.
The paintings on the walls and ceiling are the works of Dom Gregory DeWit and he began work on them in the 1940's. He mixed his own paints with a secret formula. This accounts for the wonderful condition the paintings are in even though the dining room has no air conditioning system and for most of the year the Louisiana humidity comes in through the windows.

I remember how very impressed I was with this dining room when I visited years ago. I don't remember the detail of the ceilings. I'd like to go back.
