When this picture was taken, the River was expected to crest at 22.2 feet some ten miles upriver. Flood stage is 22 feet. If the gauge at New Orleans reads over 15 feet, the Spillway will be fully opened. The seepage through the locks into the Spillway at the moment is keeping the level at New Orleans down.
