Drivers scramble to get sand and clay out of the Spillway before it is opened. Rising River water will close down the entire operation for several months. This is a very lucrative business as sediment from previous openings of the Spillway left deposits of alluvial soil. Instead of pennies from heaven, it is dollars from the Mississippi River and its tributaries.
