Pretty is as Pretty does

Of the 20 egrets that returned to the rookery this year, this couple arrived first and chose a prime spot up against the old cypress tree. He is the most handsome of the egrets with his golden tail feathers and he struts around as though he knows it.
However, he is a rascal and a lazy one at that. He steals the sticks from the other birds nests to bring to his lady and he also sits in the water under the nests to catch the sticks that the other birds drop. He does not go out and hunt like the others.
I hope when the chicks are hatched that he is willing to hunt for food to feed them.

Slick bird! I also like the back ground! Plenty of depth!
However I am quite jeolous of the greening cypress leaves! A little warm front has hit us..in a few days we will have our first day in the 70's! Then back to the deep freeze!

Beautiful image Coleen. Nice description of their behaviour too. Last year I saw a Great Blue Heron do the same thing; that is, steel sticks from his neighbours nests as they were gone to collect more.

Nice catch and storyline, I love this time of the year.
I caught a pair doing exactly the same thing this past weekend, will be a nice series when complete.
