The Sacrament of Confirmation

St. Charles Borromeo - Destrehan, Louisiana

I, my brothers and sisters and many of my nieces and nephews, received the sacrament of Confirmation in this Church. This Church Parish dates back to the 1700's and is the second oldest Catholic Church Parish in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, the oldest being the St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square.
The altar is made from the trunk of a walnut tree and was cut and imported from the town in Italy where it is said that St. Charles Borromeo was born. The tree was over 400 years old and what a shame to cut it.
The Bishop is Auxiliary Bishop Shelton Fabre, a native of New Roads, Louisiana.

The vivid colors are beautiful....so is the altar, but I agree with you.....what a shame to cut the tree.

Been a very long time since my confirmation ceremony. Things have changed for the better I see.

Yes, it is a shame to cut down any tree if it is still alive and doing well. 400 years is a long time. A wonderful image of the Confirmation service.

This is lovely Coleen, so much history in one place and so well captured by you.

Nice work Coleen. I'm not Catholic but have become very interested since moving to Ohio. I often go to Our Lady of Consolation for meditation and recently read the Catechism, cover to cover (688 pages).
