East Spillway Levee to West Spillway Levee - Spillway Structure Not Opened

Bonnet Carre' Spillway

River water is on the left and the Spillway is on the right.
The cranes stay ready to open the pins when needed. The building at the far end is Entergy's Lil Gyspy Generating Station in Montz.
Water level at the Spillway gauge on this day is 22 feet. The River is expected to crest within the next two days.
The Carrolton gauge in New Orleans must reach 17 feet before the Spillway opening is considered.
Only the General in charge can make the decision to open the Spillway. In this case, it is General Walsh of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.

It's good to know that the river is expected to stay below 17 feet at the point used to determine the need to open the Spillway and that opening the spillway is not necessary.
