A Havasu Thanksgiving 2011

First visit in almost four years, this legendarily beautiful, paradisical side canyon of the grand canyon is recovering
nicely from the 2008 flood of the century. campground and overall watershed recovering nicely but still lots of flood
debris cottonwoods. the main falls havasu and mooney have a ways to go before their pools are their magic selves again.the new
falls are growing in around the collapse and will be spectacular in a couple of years.

weather, fall colors, peeps, all great. had the canyon all to ourselves. quite awesome and almost overwhelming to have that much space,
beauty, quiet, adventure all to ourselves!! it's a long way from home to be sure. other times of the year, the creekside campground can be full and that
means 400-500 people and hundreds of campsites. but this time, empty. nite temps were cold, 35 first night then 40s and daytime in the low
60s. but 2000' canyon walls and low sun angle means lots of incredible shootable bounce light from above, very short direct light noonish
but that also means no sunbeam catnaps!! gets cool and then cold quite quickly and takes a while to warm in the am. we were in full
down at night and at first wake. still, come prepared and it's awesome.
