Mervyn Hann Davies

Mervyn, a classmate being honored by Mr Davies (right) and Mr Hann, Director of Education for Zanzibar. Mr Hann was my family's neighbour in Stone Town Zanzibar for several years. I never knew much about him. In colonial times the Brits kept to themselves... Mr Davies was the Principal of King George VI School, and I never did know even his first name, even though I attended that school for my two years at A-Level. That's how aloof the colonial masters were. Anyway, in 2019, out of the blue I learnt a few details via an email from somebody in Wales, "My interest in Mr Davies began when I found a postcard sent to him by his mother when he was in a Japanese POW camp during World War II.

He was brought up in Llandovery, a small town in Wales, and he died, aged 82, on 4th October 1995 in a Nursing Home in East Sussex, England. He had been made MBE in the 1961 Birthday Honours.".
Seems that his full name was Geraint George Davies. I suspect that this is all news to my buddies from that school.
