May 8, visited Heraklion. The photo excursion had been cancelled, so I decided to take an excursion to the Lasithi Plateau, which used to have hundreds of working windmills. Most of them are gone, but the serene countryside remains, and up, up we climbed to visit a monastery. It was only about 30 miles from Heraklion but felt a lot farther. And in one small village, I thought the bus was going to get stuck making a tight turn in the small street. I have few photos due to a mistake in processing them once I got home. But at least I found a few to remind me later of what I saw. That evening we enjoyed our first specialty dinner of the cruise. Toscana was filling and satisfying.
