Greece & Turkey Cruise - Athens - May 2026

Flew Turkish Air to Istanbul, then Athens. Spent an hour in the airport waiting for luggage after spending a half hour waiting to clear the new EES immigration requirements. Stayed at Next Door Athens in Monastiraki, very modern, modest and comfy, though a little noisy at night. Next day went to Piraeus port to board our cruise ship (Allura) for an 11 night cruise. Spent 2 hours in port seating area and in lines doing a repeat of EES. Greece was concerned that as cruisers, we would be coming back from Turkey and they didn't have a way of checking it out of the country. So all thousand of us had to re-register. Finally we got on the ship and it was worth waiting for - absolutely stunning. Allura left the port 2 hours late due to EES, and sailed into the night.
