Cooper's Hawk

Accipiter cooperii

Had a pair of Cooper’s hawks hang out in the backyard this morning. Cooper’s hawks prey primarily on other birds so they have become wise to bird feeding stations and will often be seen flying suddenly in causing all birds to scatter. Occasionally, woodpeckers will freeze on the side of a post or tree hoping to avoid detection when a hawk shows up.
