Southern Flying Squirrel

Glaucomus volans

Tuscarora

The flying squirrel was visiting the feeders again last night. It is a fearless little squirrel and continued to feed on bird seed and suet while I stood 3 - 4 feet away taking its picture. Would love to get him gliding but it is too closed in under the hemlocks where the feeders are located.

I have never seen one of these squirrels. Wings on a squirrel. How strange.

Neat find, although I am guessing you don't particularly share that opinion. :)

He's adorable! Love the interesting "wings" on this little guy!
How do these squirrels "fly" as compared to our standard gray squirrels that seem to jump far distances (to get to the bird feeders)?
