With this light, this is a spectacular and very personal taking on this much photographed spot! I love the saturation, it seems especially appropriate here! BV

Thank you very kindly David...but it isnt a panorama, its a single shot with a super wide. 12MM goes a long way...even on a DX. Thanks again!

This shot immediatly attracted me in the gallery. I love its saturation, its composition and overall balance. This almost looks like a giant nipple! I would love to go on a trip in that region some day.
Good shot mate.

On a sidenote, the Papyrus font kills it for me.

Cheers,

Z.

Fantastic picture! Composition, colours, everything is perfect. In my view the horizontal version is far better than the vertical one.

Fantastic shot, but is it only one shot or did you use a filter or blending?
Guest 13-Feb-2007 04:39
Stunning - one of the best photos I've seen from here. I'm looking forward to going myself in a few months.

this has to be the widest angle shot I have seen of this spot, excellent work.
Glad to see you accomplished this with a D70 :)

Thanks! Actually this was taken at 1:00 with a bunch of storm clouds clearing. I got very lucky...so yes....morning will give you the sun to your back......and evening if your lucky will give you underlit clouds on a sunset...which might be interesting.

Most excellent image! I'm headed to northern Arizona soon and this locale as well as the slot canyons are on the itinerary. I'd like to think I can bring an image of this quality home. I assume you're looking west here, so you need to be there early in the day? Again, two thumbs up!

Thanks you for your comment Steve, and I DBL checked the map....and you might want to do so also....comming out of Page Arizona...you take a left (Deeper into Arizona) rather than a right...(toward the Glen Canyon Dam and the Utah border) to take this shot...you park about 1/8th of a mile off the road...and hike back about 3/4 of a mile....I have triple checked the information and it is indeed in the Arizona side of the border by several miles. and this is the Colorado River (not the san juan)....and the beginnings of the Grand Canyon. Hwy 89 mile marker 545. if you want to look it up.
Steve Horne25-Aug-2005 17:37
This is a very nice shot Roman. The intermittent clouds created interesting illumination. As one who grew up in Utah, it does bother me a little to see this image labled as Page Arizona. This is the San Juan river in southern Utah, not Arizona.

Thanks Marisa.....as happy as I am with the way this turned out....it was so much more amazing in person.

amazing landscape, Roman! and you captured the essence of that place.. so outstanding. Congrats!
Roman Johnston09-Jul-2005 06:47
It is a single shot, and interesingly enough.....no corrections for distortion....I too was supprised (plesantly) Thanks!!
Guest 09-Jul-2005 04:12
Hey Roman, was this one photo? Or did you stitch a couple together? It's amazing how level the horizon is with such a wide angle. Everytime I go to Arizona & Utah it makes me want to just keep going back.

Thanks Larry and David for your very kind comments. It was an amazing place to visit...and experience....nothing but the wind blowing by and the occational cry from a hawk....but those are the parts of the experience you cant bring back with you.

Thanks again!!!
