An iconic view of the East and West Mittens and Merrick's Butte in
Monument Valley, Arizona. The Valley is probably one of the most
recognizable and visited attractions outside of the major National Parks
located in the area. Director John Ford made this valley a household name
in the filming of many westerns in the 40's, 50's and 60's.
Stagecoach (John Wayne's first major starring role) She wore a Yellow Ribbon,
My Darling Clementine, and named by The American Film Institute as the greatest
Western Film ever made, The Searchers, starring none other than John Wayne.
When standing here, my mind wanders back to "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon",
and looking out over this breathtaking scene, I can picture John Wayne's
character Captain Nathan Brittles, leading C Company of the U.S. Army's 7th Cavalry,
threading The Mittens, heading home to Fort Starke. They just don't mak'em like that anymore!!
