Tracking a large pride of 14 lionesses hunt at night was a magical experience. Our naturalist was very careful to only light them up with a torch when they were a long way away from the prey. We witnessed 2 lions attempt to take a young hippo buy chasing and jumping on its back just 10 minutes or so after this photograph. Hippo are rarely taken by lions - they were obviously very hungry.
