Hey Myles, I do shoot in Aperture mode. Usually try f/8 instead of wide open at 5.6 whenever possible. Usually ISO400 or 800, though occasionally 200 or 1000 depending on light. How do I get close? I know the birds' favorite areas and even favorite trees around my property and set up close, wearing dark clothing and being sure not to project a silhouette over horizon (e.g. kneel down, hide behind grass, stand in front of a tree to break up form, etc.). And often during migration I pish to bring birds in temporarily...
