Over the Thansgiving Holiday Kathy and I traveled to Costa Rica. A company called Costa Rica Expeditions arranged our whole trip, and did a fabulous job with the planning. During our first day in Costa Rica we took a one day tour in the San Jose area called the "3 in 1" where we visited an active volcano, Poas Volcano, visited a Butterfly and Waterfall Garden, and took a cruise down the Saripiqi River on the Carribean slope of Costa Rica. Days 2-8 were our official tour. We traveled with 5 other people from various parts of the U.S., and visited 3 different regions of Costa Rica. First we visited Corcovado Tent Camp, which is located just outside the southern end of Corcovado National Park. We spent 3 nights at the Corcovado Tent Camp where we were treated to great food, abundant wildlife, and world class views right from our tent porch. After our stay at the Corcovado Tent Camp concluded we transfered to the Savegre Mountain Lodge situated in a pristine cloud forest on the Pacific Slope of Costa Rica. Here we watched humingbirds buzz around the lodge, visited beautiful waterfalls along the Savegre River, and hiked from the 2nd highest point in Costa Rica, Cerro de la Muerte, 5000 vertical feet back down to the lodge. The third and final leg of our journey was a rafting trip down the Pacuare River through first growth tropical rain forest. The Pacuare is a class III-IV river, but as you will see quickly turned into a class VI river. Our trip to Costa Rica was one of the coolest experiences we have ever had. I attribute this to the wonderful planning of Costa Rica Expeditions, the great guides we had along the way, and of course the great natural beauty Costa Rica!
