CANADA lost one of her great naval officers. Rear-Admiral William Moss Landymore, a heart of oak for his beloved Canadian navy in war and in peace, died at Halifax’s Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building on Nov. 27, at the age of 92.
A native of Brantford, Ont., Admiral Landymore joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1936 and rose to second-in-command of the RCN in his 32 years of service. He was a distinguished fighting officer in the Second World War, surviving the sinkings of HMCS Frazer and HMCS Margaree and ending the war as gunnery officer on HMCS Uganda, for which he won mention in dispatches.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Stadacona Naval Chapel in Halifax. Following the service, his ashes will be buried at sea.
