All images were taken during two Holy Family tours in Upper-Egypt. The Holy Family tradition is forthcoming from the Coptic Orthodox church. They state that certain villages and cities have been visited by Joseph and Maria when they had to flee from Israel with the child Jesus. The places visited are off-track and difficult to enter normally because of tensions between Muslims and Christians on one hand and between Muslim extremists and the government on the other hand. Nevertheless, once one is there the photographic opportunities are marvelous. And not only photographic opportunities. Just to enjoy, its amazing. As if time stood still. The Nile and its surroundings are beautiful and very green. The people, especially the women, wear really colourful clothing.
