A blooming pair. I'm sure many adjectives have been used to described
the outstanding colour of this native. I think the best is just WOW!
Blooming time: Late September-early December
(rarely at other times of the year, such as spring, in response to fire).
Occurs: Coastal plain
Habitat: moist to very xeric savannas, pine flatwoods and sandhill.
Nearly always associated with longleaf pine (Pinus palustris)& Carolina Wiregrass(Aristida stricta).
