Oh my oh my. I've known of Chai's passing for a few years but am not too exploratory on the web.
Now what a lovely guy! I knew him when he was at Sevenoaks, and living under the umbrella of a lovely family south of the town. I used to drink and chat with him, I remember his laugh, with the back of his right hand up to his mouth so cool. And then we would walk home, a couple of miles singing songs, Chai Eli g the base, and everything the vocal, with him joining and triumphing me, at the odd ocassion. Head back, full voice. Beautiful. Don't know what the Sevenoaks asleep inhabitants thought of it, but for some reason we didn't care!
A beautiful man, from a great cause. Long may his memory vibrate through us all.
In peace
Andy Green

Thought I'd google some of my fellow Old Sennockians from 1967-71 recently, and I found Chi. Sorry to hear he is no longer with us. We were in a school band called Rockspyder, Chai played guitar and bass. A lovely guy and a fine musician. I seem to remember Chai being expelled after a drug bust (pot) that was inflicted on the band (in 1970?) after our van had scratched a prefect's car during a gig. I can't help but think that the reason he was expelled and others weren't had something to do with his ethnicity. I hope I'm wrong.

Chai lived with our family when I was a kid in the 70s in Sevenoaks, UK. I'll always remember the great times we had walking down to the village shop in Weald on a Sunday morning when he needed to replenish his tobacco supplies. A really nice guy.

Hi although not close, I remember Chai well from the early 70's, again in Sevenoaks, as a friend. He came to my house and played the piano. Very sad to learn that he has passed on. He was one of those people who linger in the memory as one of nature's true gentlemen. RIP

I was also at Sevenoaks School with Chai in the 1970s. I can remember him playing piano in the pub with so much rhythm, and I can remember hanging out with him in the long hot summers. He taught me what it is to be black and to be proud of being black. I often wonder what happened to him, and I'm really sorry to discover that I can never meet him again.

I too was at Sevenoaks School with Chai, we were good friends for a crazy summer or two in the early seventies. I loved him dearly, we played a lot of music together and had a lot of adventures. Such a special man and I'm very sorry to hear that he has passed away. I know that anyone else who knew him when I did would remember him fondly. I remember him talking about his parents and their stand against Smith. He worried so much about their imprisonment.

Chai and I were friends at school in the late 60's early 70's, when chai came to Sevenoaks School. He came to my family home and we spent good times with my family and friends. I admired his ability on the guitar, and although quiet and shy, the fact that he could get up on stage and play to a crowd. It is obvious that he had a memorable effect on my life, as I still think of him some 40 years on. I had hoped to remake contact, but I had no idea that Chai had passed away, and I am much sadened by this news. I would love to hear from his family.
Rammo.

Chaitezvi Chinamano was the 'gentle brother' in the family. He taught me how to tie a tie (the proper way), how to play a descent tune on his acoustic guitar and the wonderful art of humbleness. Rest in Peace Uncle

Your Loving Nephew
