Glass Creation

4-Dec-2010

I had a chance this morning to stop at this glass studio in the city and the artist allowed me to take photos of her while she worked. I have to admit I love watching craftsmen (craftspeople?) do their thing. The process of taking a pile of sand (and a few other elements), heating it way up and creating a glass object from that just blows my mind!
She handled the pipe, torches, ovens and shaping tools with such ease all the while talking with me and others in the studio this morning. She has some really gorgeous stuff but a lot of it is out of my price range.
The studio is More Fire Glass Studio and the artist is Elizabeth Lyons.

I agree, this is fascinating work to watch. Such amazing skill, and the results are invariably beautiful. Nicely composed and captured, Patti.

That is so interesting, I love watching our black smith when he works at Stonefield! But you had a lot of fun Patti!

I just love to watch them do this. When we were in Morano, Italy, I didn't want to leave as there were so many folks doing this there. Simply amazing!

I think that many of us enjoy watching a talented craftsperson at work (perhaps wishing that we had either the talent or the tenacity). I really like your composition; it is more about the process and the environment than the individual. I'll bet that she would love a copy of this.

This is really interesting - an excellent illustration of this craft maker at work.

It is amazing that she does not have on gloves. I, too, like to observe craftsmen .

Neat that you got behind the scenes although she; in her small stature and clean white top, looks out of place with such industrial equipment all around. Wonderful work - both of you! V
