Looking back at the rapid. It looks smaller up here, in fact I wasn't sure this was it looking at it from downstream.

I hiked from Tacoma to Brushy Bar Guard Station in about an hour. (Mile 32..7 to 30.2).

It took sometime to hike in and back out, plus I took off my long underwear, did the rest of hike in shorts, except the last morning, when I also put mittens and my rain jacket on.

At Half Moon Bar Mile 28.6 I crossed my first slide, while I don't think it took out the trail, it covered it with enough stuff that I thought it or I could slide down it. I did not test it since I would have had to climb up on loose odd shaped rock. Instead I easily dropped down about 30' feet and crossed the slide where it looked more stable, and I would slide only a bit further. I could not climb the last 10 feet up though. The bare rock was too slick, and the earth next to it would give way. I descended down to the bar, and hiked along to the far end, and hiked up the woods, which turned out to have a trail up to the toilet and then up to the hiking trail. Worst case I could have backtracked to another trail which would take me up to the trail (on the downstream side of the slide). It would be easy to use these two trails to avoid the slide all together? If I was going to go off trail again, I decided I would go up first. (I thought going down would be the hardest until this)

I had lunch on some plastic chairs at Paradise Creek (Mile 27.3). There was a guy feeding cows at Paradise Lodge, but otherwise I don't think it was open and there were no signs saying welcome to hikers until I got to the upstream side.

Soon after leaving Paradise I got to the worst tree crossing of the trip. Not too bad, the terrain was a bit steep and brushy but just a bit time consuming.
