This is an image taken with the Sun well into the sky above a tall building, still several hours before sunset. I had no filter on the camera lens and you could look directly at the Sun, which you should not be able to do.

Fortunately the eclipse for this trip would be on the west side of China, where the pollution is nearly non-existent. It is this image that lead me to select to view the 2009 TSE from a cruise ship well away from land rather than in the Shanghai area, a choice that was a very good choice.
