NGC7000.jpg

Frostbite Falls

Cropped from original and enlarged to see how well film can record detail. NGC7000 or North American Nebula is a huge emission nebula located in the constellation Cygnus, which appears overhead during the late summer and early winter months. Cygnus is also called the Northern Cross, but is Latin for the word "Swan". Cygnus is home to a variety of nebulae and star clusters. The "Pelican Nebula" is visible to the right of 7000. These nebulae glow red, as they are predominantly made up of hydrogen gas, the most abundant element in the Universe. The large stars and star fields excite the gases by the intense pressure and heat from the "reactors" within the stars. Dark Nebula or Lanes run through this intense area. The swath of the Milky Way runs through the heart of Cygnus.
