Pleasantly Surprised (Again)

San Juan County, UT view map

This image marks the second time I have been surprised to see Ship Rock during my travels.
I wasn't aware that Ship Rock was even close to where I was at because it is located in New Mexico
and I was in Utah after all. But, sure enough, this magnificent volcanic plug caught my eye approximately
75 miles (as the crow flies) from where I was driving. The first time I was surprised to see
this formation was while traveling on a business trip (below):

Quite a nice thing to notice. I like the old time, classic B&W look to this as well as the aerial shot. The ground shot reminds me a lot of the first time I saw it back in 1992 on my way home from Phoenix, although I think I was closer than 75 miles.

It seems to rise like a lonely sentinel over the desert. what a sight... and from 75 miles away. Super shot. V
