Kitt Peak Sundial

Kitt Peak National Observatory Complex view map

One of the more unusual sundials I have seen. This one is located on the south side of the
Visitor Center at Kitt Peak. Image has been flipped vertically and horizontally for this perspective.
This is a crystal ball suspended above a parabolic glass plate with markings to signify the hour.

To help put this into better perspective, here's a shot of Vatorman taking a shot at the crystal ball in the sundial.

That is visually intriguing for sure. Thanks for including the perspective photo with Glenn to make it all make sense.

Great vision - love it.

Also, I really love the "behind the scenes" shots you so often share. What fun and in the moment kind of photography that is so cool to see.

Very cool! I admit I needed the extra info, so thanks for providing. However, a very intriguing shot without explanation.

Two things demonstrated here...
How to get the crystal ball shot ...and...how to get crow feet.

Thanks for Vatorman's image. It really helps.

Cool shots, the top one is a bit disorienting, and the second with Vatorman demonstrating how it's done puts it into perspective.

Intriguing, innovative and creative work, Sam, the second image was very useful to my aged mind understanding what happened on the first one:) V++

Great effect with this. The ball is quite fine optically too since it renders the details sharply.

I love the quirky perspective through the sundial! V
globalgadabout05-Nov-2014 03:33
see why you flipped it for the sake of the building...the sundial must be concave then, still it is a tad disorienting...fascinating though too...
Glenn Dean (Vatorman)05-Nov-2014 03:13
Or did you flip upside-down?
Cool work Sam.
